Dragons Pull Away Late as Cats Fall in High Scoring Affair
Posted November 3rd, 2018 @ 11:20 pm

Three goals from Brett Edwards and a five point night for Jardan Taupert helped quickly erase an early 2-0 Lloydminster Bobcat’s lead as the Drumheller Dragons went on to roll to a 7-4 victory over the Cats Saturday night in Drumheller.

The current second seed in the Viterra South Division quickly responded after falling behind by a pair of goals less than eight minutes into the game, scoring seven of the next nine goals en route to the victory.

Having had all week off, the Bobcats looked like the fresher time in the early stages. The Dragons were coming off of a 2-1 loss to Fort McMurray Friday night, and Lloydminster certainly had the advantage in the early stages.

Less than two minutes into the game Hunter Lamb put home a rebound for his six goal of the season, before Tucker Scantlebury scored his sixth of the year to make it 2-0 not even eight minutes into the contest.

However, before we could even reach the media timeout, the Dragons got back on even ground. A pair of goals just over a minute a part tied the score 2-2.

Then right after the media timeout, the Dragons took their first lead of the game, taking a 3-2 advantage into the first intermission.

In the second, the scoring continued. An early goal from Brett Edwards (his second of the game) extended the Drumheller lead to two, but Rylan Nivon quickly replied with his seventh of the year to make it 4-3.

Late in the second period, as a Dragon’s 5-on-3 power-play expired, Edwards one-timed home his hat-trick goal and restore Drumheller’s two goal lead.

In the final frame Jordan Taupert scored a pair of breakaway goals to blow it open at 7-3, before Logan Bromhead scored his first goal as a Bobcat in the late stages to round out the scoring.

Drumheller went on to outshoot the Cats 38-31 in the game, with Cale Elder taking the loss in goal and Hunter Virostek picking up the win.

With the man-advantage, the Bobcats finished 0 for 5, while the Dragons went 1 for 3.

It will now be a quick turn around for Lloydminster. They’ll be back on the ice Sunday afternoon for a 2:00pm contest in Camrose against the Kodiaks.
